This week we spotlight the Boneyard Arts Festival, which takes place this weekend, April 19th-22, 2012 throughout Champaign County. 40 North | 88 West, the Champaign County Arts, Culture, and Entertainment Council, is a 2012 Urbana Arts Grant recipient for the Urbana Day of the Boneyard Arts Festival on Saturday, April 21. Read on to find out more about this great event and what 40 North | 88 West Executive Director, Kelly White, is most excited about.
What is the Boneyard Arts Festival?
The 40 North Boneyard Arts Festival is an annual four-day event showcasing the broad range of creative activity flourishing in our community. Its goal is to bring together local artists and businesses for a special event showcasing the art that lives here.
Sculptors, weavers, painters, photographers and other visual artists join musicians, actors, dancers, poets and performers of all kinds in sharing their creativity throughout Champaign, Urbana, Campustown, Dewey, Rantoul and Sidney. 40 North invites artists to partner with local businesses, arts organizations, nonprofits, schools or municipal offices in hosting a performance or display of work…and join the celebration!
Where is it?
More than a traditional arts walk, the Boneyard is a unique countywide celebration that takes place in a wide variety of venues (over 100!) – both traditional (clubs, galleries & museums) and non-traditional (ice cream shops & real estate offices) – and features the work of literally hundreds of artists.
Thursday: U of I Campus
Sunday: Out & About Champaign County
Will the artwork be for sale?
Unless otherwise noted, all artwork is FOR SALE!
What Boneyard Arts Festival events are you most excited about?
Boneyard Basin, the celebration kick-off event taking place Thursday night, from 5-10 PM. Boneyard Basin is filled with sculpture, music, and the natural beauty of the Boneyard. The ABCU “Showcase of Handcrafted Letterforms” at the Indi Go Artist Co-op on Friday is also a favorite. Other exciting events include turning the Orpheum Children’s Science Museum into Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory (perfect for kids!), and the various goings-on at Lincoln Square in Urbana.
And of course, 40 North can’t thank enough all of the volunteers that help make the Boneyard Arts Festival such a wonderful event each year.
